Last night, the congressman from Arizona introduced a bill to raise the price of your prescription drugs by 2,000 percent. He introduced it at a hearing before the House Ways and Means Committee.
But he wasn’t alone, and while Gosar’s colleagues refused to be cowed by his theatrics, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democrat of New York, was more than a little taken aback.
On Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez — who was present at the hearing — seemed to have been captivated by a video that was screened by the chairman at the hearing. While scrolling through their personalized transcripts of the testimony given by Gosar and Representative Jackie Speier, Ocasio-Cortez noticed something that did not seem very…appropriate.
Of course, the response to that video was predictable. The right-wing overreaction was as predictable as it was revolting. Shortly after the video was posted to Twitter, CNN’s reporting team made the controversial assumption that a viewer watching it thought Gosar was a homicidal maniac in the position of having to defend the price hikes on his own wallet.
It is not the first time the cable network, or any cable network, has risen to the defense of Gosar, who has been known to “draw cartoons” about Democrats on Twitter and has referred to Ocasio-Cortez as “Little Moe.”
This isn’t the first time Fox News has defended a Republican – in fact, more than once.
Even Ocasio-Cortez is on record calling out Fox News on this count. Back in November, the congresswoman made an impassioned speech denouncing the conservative network’s reaction to the health care debate.
“Fox News, I did not expect to see this from your organization — Fox News’ response,” she said. “What’s disgusting is the way they’re relating this issue to Little Moe-ing kids in hazmat suits.”
Gosar’s bill passed its first reading — meaning that it will be further examined by a broader committee — so expect more theatrics.
