Dustin Poirier is ready to make a big move in MMA

In the last six months, T.J. Dillashaw has won four fights in a row to officially cement himself as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport. But it’s still not a done deal: his title run could still be short-lived if UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who is currently focusing on a superfight against Floyd Mayweather, loses his next fight against lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov in May. Then the belt could change hands again – and there’s no shortage of contenders ready to take Dillashaw’s place.

The most intriguing of the possible successor choices is Dustin Poirier, who won the belt via a unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar in November, adding the belt that UFC legend Conor McGregor held during his eight-fight winning streak, but has since held on to.

But today, he’ll be facing an unfamiliar opponent in Charles Oliveira, who has surprisingly gotten his first shot at the belt via a June knockout of reigning champ Rafael dos Anjos.

We’ve got your way to watch this highly anticipated bout live online and on television.

Tune in tonight at 7 pm ET on FOX and 8 pm ET on UFC Fight Pass to watch from the front row at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

It’s the second fight of the day for both men; Oliveira has said that he plans to stop Poirier within two rounds. But don’t count on that happening.

Remember, Oliveira retired for a period of time after he won a lightweight title shot against Dos Anjos in 2016. But recently, he told ESPN that he came back because he wanted to keep the spot that Conor McGregor vacated: “I wanted the belt because it would have meant something to me to have it. “I also wanted to show that I could handle it.”

That hasn’t stopped people from believing that Poirier has what it takes to claim the belt back for the UFC: “If I can lose [Oliveira] then maybe I can get Conor back. The UFC is giving me a chance to prove that I’m the best in the world” Poirier recently told ESPN.

Don’t miss it.
