NASCAR driver critically injured in Taiwan crash

Taiwanese police are investigating an attack on a junior Formula 3 driver who was backing into another car.

The driver of the car in front, Chih-An Chiu, crashed into the back of another racer, Chen Guo-hsien, as the other driver attempted to jump a line on a track outside of Taipei last week.

Both racers were hospitalized but the 12-year-old Chien is recovering well, according to AmateurNet.net , which called the track the New Taipei F1 Circuit.

Beijing-based news service, Paper, reported that Chien, the only Taiwanese driver of this year’s Formula 3 class, was facing charges for “intimidating a user” under Taiwan’s cyber code.

Last month, another Taiwanese racing driver, Jia Sun-yu, died after colliding with another car at a car-racing event in Toronto.

Briefing the local media, his team chairman, Wu Ming-liang, described the young driver as a gifted young man.
