Serena Williams teases tennis fans as she says ‘I’m not retired’ against Steffi Graf in Berlin

Serena Williams, who is looking forward to the start of the Australian Open, is still a force to be reckoned with at the sport’s biggest event.

She is ranked No. 1 and is hoping to defend her title at Melbourne. The former world No. 1 defeated Maria Sharapova in two sets in Doha in a wild final on Thursday as she attempts to win her seventh major title.

Williams was quick to defend her title and said afterwards: “I would like to make an exception at a tournament I like to win and see it be a good tournament.”

With her sights firmly on the Australian Open title, she added: “It seems a lot of people are getting away from me. I’m not retired yet.”

Meanwhile, Serena had some more words for Graf when they faced each other in the final in Berlin on Sunday.

Williams made the controversial remark as she went into the locker room before the match.

And she said: “You have nothing to be afraid of.”

Williams said on Friday: “I’m sure she understands what I’m saying.”

Williams has made it clear that she has no intentions of taking a break following Doha.

However, in her comments to the media she said: “I’ve got a lot of things I need to do, and I’m going to be the first to admit it.”

After the match she added: “I’m not retired yet.”

Asked about the comments on Friday, Graf said: “This is the first time in her career she played me.”

Graf was speaking after Williams defeated Graf 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) in their last-eight match in Doha.

With a win against Williams, she would play the top seed Venus Williams in the final.
